⚠️ A BIG word of warning when doing anything with utilities!
I was recently talking with a developer, and we were discussing utilities! They made the statement that they thought they had started with the utilities to their development early enough…and then said:
"early enough is never early enough" - too true! 👍
Way back in October we contacted the energy supplier to our SA property in Northumberland. 💸 We booked and paid for an Isolator Switch (so we could fit an EV Charger) and for a meter move (we wanted to move the meter to the opposite wall).
Hindsight is a wonderful thing! 😊
Since then, we have had multiple visits from Northern Power Grid who supply in Northumberland. ⚠️ BEWARE one surveyor only looks at one thing – so one person to survey the meter, one person to survey the loop supply, one person to survey or the isolator…so many “one” persons 😣! No wonder utility costs are through the roof. 💸💸💸
5 months and we finally have them on site, whether that means the right people are on site….watch this space. 👀
This is a loop supply, and they are even more fun!
The reason I mention the loop supply is in many old properties electric supplies were “looped” between properties, as in fed into one property and then just popped through a hole in the wall to the neighbour!
😨😱 EEEEkkkkkk if you have a loop supply, throw into the mix the fact you need your neighbour’s consent to turn off the electric to their house when a new supply is run in. 🙈
Our loop supply was finally condemned, and we have been fitted a new supply FOC by Northern Power Grid. 🧐
TOP TIP: it is NEVER too early to start on utilities and don't take anything you are told as accurate! Check, double and triple check!
